Marble Mountain
Extreme Weather Policy
Marble Mountain has developed a set of extreme weather policies designed to protect our guests, staff, and assets in the event of extreme weather.
Extreme cold weather affects the operation of mechanical devices (lifts, snowmobiles, groomers). These devices work a little harder in extreme temperatures. The safety of guests and staff have to be considered when operating in extreme conditions.
Temperature policy:
- In extreme temperatures, management gives consideration to the unlikely possibility of a manual evacuation of a chairlift. Time is of the essence in extreme temperatures, therefore in temperatures below -28 degrees C wind chill, all non-surface lifts will cease operations as frostbite and hypothemia can set in quickly. Priority is given to safety of guests and staff.
- In the event of a lift failure in extreme temperatures (-20 degrees C wind chill and below) lift mechanics will try and resolve the problem for a period of no longer than 10 minutes before deployment of a diesel generator to evacuate the lift.
- At -25 degrees C wind chill all ski school programs are cancelled.
- Guests are advised to dress appropriately and plan for delay when boarding the lifts. Check frequently for frostbite and take frequent warmup breaks.
Wind Policy
- Wind speeds are constantly monitored on the mountain
- At wind speeds of 50km/h, non-surface lifts will operate at reduced speeds as deemed by the lift attendant. Lift attendants and ski patrol are also monitoring the swing of the chairs at all times during windy conditions.
- At 70 km/h all non-surface lifts will cease operation for the safety of guests, staff and equipment.
Special Weather & Travel Advisories
- Management of Marble Mountain constantly monitor weather conditions. In the event of storm, blizzard, and travel advisories, management will make a cancellation announcement as early as is feasible to do so in order to ensure the safety of traveling guests and staff.
