We are SO close to opening Marble Mountain for the season!

We are SO close to opening Marble Mountain for the season!

We are SO close to opening Marble Mountain for the season! In fact – we were working very hard to surprise you all on boxing day with an early opening but we ran into a mechanical issue on the Newfie Bullet Lift. That being said – here is our official update for January 4th 2021.

First, We thank everyone for your positivity and support this year. We really feel it and it motivates us to do everything in our power to provide an amazing season for you all! We’re a management team of locals who grew up riding this hill. We want to bring back the BEST of Marble while creating exciting new ways for people to enjoy this property because after all – we are more than a mountain.

Marble Mountain will not be 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 as anticipated on January 5th. Slopes and lift service will open as soon as snow conditions allow and from this point forward we will provide you regular weekly updates as to the opening status. Today it’s simply a matter of – not quite enough snow.

𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝 𝟏𝟗 We learned a lot last season about adapting our resort to a global pandemic. We are not expecting complete shutdowns of our operation this season due to Covid, but users will likely see some modifications to the way we use our space as we adapt to changes in Covid alert levels. Our entire lodge and all it’s amenities including kitchen and rental shop will be available to you on opening day. Capacities will be reduced initially.

𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 The 2022 season is bringing some new ski pass and gate technology to Marble! Ski passes will now feature RFID tracking that pairs to a new gantry gate system at each chair lift. The newly installed gates will be able to detect the season pass or day pass that you have in your pocket and open the gate for you. This measure will eliminate theft/fake passes that have been impacting revenue of chairlift operations for years. RFID Tracking will also provide us more value data needed to optimize the experience for users. Right now we are unable to print ski passes as our new system is in the process of being installed by technicians from Utah (SkiData). We expect this to be completed in a few days and will be notifying buyers by email when they can come in to get their pass.

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 Lightning Express is ready to ride. At this time there isn’t enough snow coverage across the mountain to provide full ski routes from top to bottom of the hill. As soon as snow coverage allows – this lift will open.

𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐟𝐢𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐭 An extensive repair has been completed on the Newfie Bullet lift including a brand new 150hp motor. During a recent inspection, a mechanical issue was discovered that will prevent usage of this lift. The required repairs are in progress and we expect this lift to be running in time for Night Skiing towards the end of the month. 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐡 This lift is currently disabled as we continue to work with the manufacturers to get the new haul cable installed and spliced. Further updates to come. It is unclear at this time exactly when the lift will be functional.

𝐒𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 Our snowmaking crew has been battling weather and equipment failures related to aging infrastructure. Despite this, crews have made HUGE progress and managed to make a load of snow. It’s not possible to make ALL the snow needed to open the mountain and we have not yet received the natural snow needed to complete the coverage on the mountain. After consulting with local users and experts, our Snowmaking Technicians have been experimenting with “Snow Farming” where we’ve seen great results! Snow farming is a passive snowmaking method that utilizes snow fencing to build drifts of wind-driven snow in parts of the mountain that aren’t equipped for usual snowmaking. So far this is looking like a great new tool for our snowmaking toolbelt!

𝐒𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 Building off of tactics and methods deployed last season to safely deliver ski/snowboard instruction – all programs and lessons are expected to go ahead as planned. If there are any changes to programming, registrants will be contacted directly by the Snowschool Manager Paul Tizzard.

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚 Our Marble Villa Ski-up accommodations are switching to an Airbnb booking system for 2022. We expect the villa to be open for reservations and ski/stay packages very soon. Again, we hope everyone can sense that we are truly working for you! Our daily mission is to make this facility the BEST it can be for all of Newfoundland. We don’t take no for an answer and try to come up with innovative solutions for everything we have been and will be faced with.
