WHAT'S NEW FOR 2010
[Posted: December 9, 2009]

Steady Brook, NL - If you want the latest from Marble Mountain Resort, the best source of information is the resort's newly redesigned web site (skimarble.com) The site was launched in early October.

"The site captures the personality of Marble Mountain. It's full of beautiful images, lots of information and it's extremely easy to use," said Alli Johnston, Marble Mountain's Marketing Manager. Skimarble.com also now features a Snow Poll, where you can weigh in on a weekly question posed by the resort and see where your answer lines up with others. "And be sure to visit skimarble.com and send your friends a Marble Mountain eCard for Christmas, a birthday or just because," said Johnston.

The online world is constantly evolving and Marble Mountain plans to use digital marketing tools to keep customers informed and engaged. "We're really thrilled with the new site, but we're also excited that it's no longer the only online source for all things Marble Mountain," said Johnston.

A Facebook Fan page was launched last winter and now has nearly 2,700 members. This week, Marble Mountain will launch a stable of online tools to help you stay in touch with what's happening at the Mountain including a blog and a mobile version of the site designed specifically for viewing on the latest generation of smart phones. You'll also soon be able to follow Marble Mountain on Twitter and in the New Year, download a free iPhone app.

The newest addition to the slopes will be a Progression Terrain Park. This area is designed for entry-level riders and skiers and will offer rails and jumps that are close to the snow, making them less intimidating. Many of the progression park's features will be smaller versions of what's in the Terrain Park. Ride-on features where the snow slopes up to the rail or box will make learning tricks easier. The new park will occupy part of Crocker's Run and will be a great place to learn and practice before heading onto the full-size features and big air jumps in the larger Terrain Park.

The outside crew has also been busy making some changes to existing terrain. The Snocross course, which was located on Nature Trail in the winter of 2008 will be relocated front and centre on part Crocker's run. The course is used by skiers and snowboarders and the new location will allow for a longer, wider run that is easier to make snow on and is visible from the base of the mountain.

Both the Progression Park and the Snocross course will be used during a number of competitions hosted by NL Snowboard, the newly formed provincial snowboard association.

There will also be up to four new features introduced into the Terrain Park over the winter and two of last season's new runs have been tweaked. The Ugly Stick glade run has been made wider and longer and Jigger has been widened at the top and at the last turn.

An iconic piece of the Corner Brook Triathlon has become a part of Marble Mountain. The lighthouse that sat at the finish line of Corner Brook's ITU World Cup Triathlon event now sits on the skiers right of the Cruiser. The lighthouse will be used for race timing and there are plans to install a foghorn, which will be used to signal race starts.

"We're proud to have been a supporter of the Corner Brook Triathlon and are delighted to integrate a part of the event's legacy into the atmosphere of Marble Mountain," said Anne Pinsent, Marble Mountain's General Manager. "Lighthouses are a part of our culture. We're most likely the only ski resort in Canada to have one on its slopes and I think out-of-province skiers will love it," said Pinsent.

The staff at Marble Mountain is excited about the winter ahead. Snowmaking began on December 6 and everyone is looking forward to scheduled opening day, which is December 26. Opening date is weather dependent, so check skimarble.com or call the Snow Line at 709-637-SNOW for updates.
